Oral cancer and precancers are a major public health challenge in developing countries. Researchers in Saudi Arabia have constantly been directing their efforts on oral cancer research and have their results published. Systematic analysis of such papers is the need of the hour as it will not only acknowledge the current status but will also help in framing future policies on oral cancer research in Saudi Arabia.
The search string “oral cancer” OR “Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma” OR “oral premalignant lesion” OR “oral precancer” OR “Oral Potentially malignant disorder” AND AFFIL (Saudi AND Arabia ) was used for retrieval of articles from Scopus database.
Various tools available in Scopus database were used for analyzing the bibliometric related parameters. The search revealed a total of 663 publications based on the above query. Maximum affiliations were from King Saud University (163) followed by Jazan University (109) and then King Abdulaziz University (106).
A large number of international collaborations were observed, the maximum with India (176) and the USA (127). The maximum number of articles were published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention (34) followed by the Journal of Contemporary Dental Practice (33) and Journal of Oral Pathology and Medicine (19).Saudi researchers are directing their efforts towards the public health menace of oral cancer.

However, it was also observed that some institutions have emerged as front runners in research, whereas others are contributing significantly less. The health department should encourage and take necessary steps to increase the involvement of other institutions.

The 100 Most Cited Articles on Vitrectomy: A Bibliographic Perspective.
To analyze the 100 most-cited articles on pars plana vitrectomy (PPV).Bibliographic study. A literature search using the bibliographic databases of the ISI Web of Knowledge limited to research articles published between 1971 and 2018 in peer-reviewed journals of ophthalmology. Number of citations since publication.
The 100 most-cited articles on PPV were published in 11 different ophthalmology journals, with 73 of them published in Ophthalmology (n = 31), American Journal of Ophthalmology (n = 26), and Archives of Ophthalmology (n = 16). They originated from 14 different countries, predominantly from the United States (n = 64), and 99 of them were written in English.
Their topics cover a wide spectrum of retinal conditions that vary from decade to decade as the technique of PPV evolved and became applicable to more indications. This bibliographic study provides a unique historic perspective of the development of PPV and its applications from its introduction to its current status.
Environmental performance of building integrated grey water reuse systems based on Life-Cycle Assessment: A systematic and bibliographic analysis.
The increasing demand for freshwater has been a global concern for decades. Desalination and water transportation systems consume an ample amount of energy, which also adds to environmental pollution.
This has led to a constant look-out for more viable options to conserve freshwater resources without compromising the environmental quality. The building sectors are remarkably the largest consumers of fresh water in the world; thus, the reclamation and reuse of greywater for non-potable purposes helps to reduce a significant amount of water consumed within a building.
This study critically reviews the environmental performance of building-integrated greywater treatment systems compared to the conventional treatment systems deployed. Life-Cycle Assessment (LCA) is the method used to identify the environmental impacts associated with both the systems during their entire life span. The greywater treatment techniques and the guidelines for its reuse are also investigated.
The bibliographic analysis was systematic, and the resources for this study were chosen after three stages of quality assessment. The study found physical and biological treatment techniques to be beneficial as they produce excellent quality of treated greywater for reuse.
The environmental assessment by various studies prefers the reuse of greywater over its disposal. Guidelines for the reuse of treated greywater have recently been proposed by various countries and building rating systems.
This study aims to address the policymakers, governmental and environmental organizations, mainly situated in the water-stressed areas such as the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, to raise awareness and initiate greywater reuse techniques within residential and commercial building sectors.

Description: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the scavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) superfamily, and is exclusively expressed in monocytes and macrophages. It functions as an acute phase-regulated receptor involved in the clearance and endocytosis of hemoglobin/haptoglobin complexes by macrophages, and may thereby protect tissues from free hemoglobin-mediated oxidative damage. This protein may also function as an innate immune sensor for bacteria and inducer of local inflammation. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. |
